Belts have always been a versatile accessory, serving both practical purposes – like keeping big pants in place – and adding a touch of “pizzazz” to an outfit. Over time, belts have evolved into a key element of personal style and self-expression. An example of this evolution is the belt bag, which has become increasingly popular among influencers in the fashion space. These bags remind me of fanny packs but with a modern, stylish twist – often featuring sleek, leather designs that elevate their look. Here are some of my favourite belt bags and three ways to style them.
Belt bags date back to the 2010s with luxury brands like Gucci and Prada introducing their iconic versions. However, my own introduction to belt bags happened during a late-night Instagram scroll, where I stumbled upon the ‘Rino Belt’ by Gimaguas, a Spanish clothing and apparel brand. I remember thinking how cool and unique it looked – an updated take on a classic accessory that felt fresh and contemporary.
Gimaguas’ belts still exude practicality as it has pockets which keys and small items can be put into serving as a belt and mini bag. Other brands have also released their own spin on belt bags. Parallel X Studio (one of my favourite brands at the moment) released the leather belt bag seen above on the right as part of their Workwear collection in June. Made with cowhide leather, it reminded me of cowboys, farms and ranches – the very inspiration behind the collection. Sticking to the practicality of belt bags once again, Parallel X Studio’s Belt Bag features a total of 5 pockets.
How to Style Belt Bags
If you’re still reading at this point, I’m guessing you’ve agreed these belts are stylish so here are 3 ways to style them:
-
The Summer/Chic Look: Belt bags are versatile enough to pair with a mini or midi black dress and flat shoes or heels depending on what you’re more comfortable with. Tying in with the summer vibe, you can also opt for some flip flops and throw some shades on. Perfect for running around on-the-go, just don’t forget to grab your Oyster!
*- you can also add a sweater*
- Elevated Evening Look: This is personally my favourite look out of the three! Perfect for grabbing dinner with friends or attending events in the evening. The capris and kitten heels are great for an understated but stylish look. The Akino Top pairs really well with the rest of the outfit but you can also substitute with a cute top you already have. Not a fan of capris? You can easily switch them out with a black mini/midi skirt!
- The Casual Denim Jeans Look: I like to think a good pair of blue jeans can always build a great outfit and there’s a high chance you have a pair lying around somewhere. Paired with the Brown Belt Bag from Parallel X, this is perfect for grabbing lunch with friends, going on a shopping trip or to a concert where your favourite artist is playing. Alternatively, if you’d like to go for a more casual, off duty model look, you could swap out the Tankair top for a simple black or white top.
Belt bags are truly a versatile and stylish accessory that combines practicality with fashion. So, if you’re looking for a unique addition to your wardrobe, consider investing in a belt bag and experimenting with your looks.
